MUSICOLOR organised a grand musical evening titled “Evergreen Hits of Rajesh Khanna“ on Thursday 22nd November. Hordes of music lovers from all over Mumbai who had congregated at the Dinanath Mangeshkar Hall at Vile Parle were transported to a world of nostalgia. In short it was a trip down melody lane as talented singers Srikant Narayan, Sarita Rajesh, Vinod Seshadiri, Archana Gore and Kiran Shembekar rendered a string of memorable songs of superstar Rajesh Khanna from films like Amar Prem, Aradhana, Safar, Anand, Kati Patang, Khamoshi, Mehbooba, Anurodh, Ajnabee, Daag, Mere Jeevan Saathi, Namak Haram, Haathi Mere Saathi, Aap Ki Kasam among others. “ Music always played a significant part in all Rajesh Khanna starrer’s and most of his songs were instant hits. It’s pleasure listening to them “, quipped Kandivali resident Aarti Shetty, a music lover who attended the programme. While another hardcore music buff Kerban Godrej added, “ It’s amazing to note that the songs composed more than thirty years ago are still popular and every one in the audience were humming along “. Host Prashant Rao mentioned about the dramatic and spectacular emergence of Rajesh Khanna post Aradhana and spoke at length about the ‘Rajesh Khanna phenomenon’ that swept the entire nation off its feet and the hysteria he unleashed was unlike anything seen till date. Producers craved for his dates while fans queued outside his house for hours and women all over the country swooned over him. Memorable compositions like ‘Chingari koi bhadke’, ‘Jeevan se bhari’, ‘Roop tera mastana’, ‘Chala jata hoon’, ‘Zindagi kaisi hai paheli’, ‘Kora kagaz tha’, ‘Mere dil mein aaj kya hai’, ‘Pyar diwana hota hai’, ‘Mere diwanepan ki’ were presented live on stage by the talented artistes of Musicolor ably supported by renowned musicians from the music fraternity like Ajay Madan (Lead Guitar), Deepak Borkar (Side Rhythm), Nandkishore (Saxophone), Praveen Pathak, Nilesh Devasthali (Synthesizer), Vijay Tambe (Flute), Vijay Jadhav (Octopad), Vasudev Mathre (Congo/Dholak) and Sushil Gangavane (Tabla). Sarita, who is the initiator of Musicolor informed that the audience response has been tremendous and the group intends doing many more such music programmes in the future. “ It has instilled great confidence in all of us “, she informed. While the master of ceremony kept the enthralled audience glued to their seats with the gift of the gab and hilarious repartees timeless hit scores like ‘Chup gaye sare nazare’, ‘Itna toh yaad hai mujhe’ and ‘Jai jai shiv shankar’ received thunderous applause from the audience.
